‘We feel, we translate our feelings into music and only then – into words’.
Close to Monday’s new synthpop album is about searching for harmony in the world of unrest
European band ‘Close to Monday’ released INTERFERENCE – their latest album, in which the feeling of travel is intertwined with the search for the place in the world. ANY, the vocalist who has joined the group recently, takes on the role of a pilgrim whose image will accompany the listeners on their way to self-knowledge and the discovery of the unknown.
According to the band’s founder, ‘INTERFERENCE’ is ‘a change of state from blunt and careless mutual intrusion to harmony – with oneself and with people around’.
The band create electronic music in the genres of Electropop, Synthpop, Indietronica. Each of their tracks communicating a ‘photo of feelings’ – a ready-made image, a situation reflecting their perception of things happening in the surrounding world and inside themselves, emotional experiences that are familiar to everybody.
The name of the band – ‘Close to Monday’ – was not chosen by chance. CTM’s music transfers its listeners into the last minutes of sleep before Monday comes, when serenity and joy begin to intertwine with the awareness of reality – but there is still time for wandering and reflection. Close to Monday’s music is a journey – both from country to country, from one feeling to another.
The Band has also unveiled their new logo: inspired by the laconic sensuality of the Scandinavian runes, CTM chose the symbols ‘kenaz’ (‘strength’), ‘teiwaz’ (‘success’) and ‘dagaz’ (‘flow of time’). Since ancient times, these runes have protected wanderers from evil, shielding them on their way, helping them to find strength in desperate times.
‘At some point, it seemed to us that everything that happens in the world is terribly oppressive, so many deaths, so much injustice; it felt like we needed god’s hand, but a tough god who would come and put an end to evil. This feeling of anticipation of a righteous and tough hand sparked the creation of the ‘Guns’ track.
And this is the case with all our tracks, we feel something, translate these sensations into music, and only then shape them into words’, the band members talk about their work.
