Mari Conti, Italian singer-songwriter, was born in Rome and since she was a teenager she became passionate about music starting to sing first as a chorister and then as a soloist, in many cover bands in the capital. She began writing her songs only a few years later, coinciding with two very important meetings for her. The first with the American guitarist Gary Lucas with whom he writes an unpublished piece You Will See My Flame Again, dedicated to his favorite singer Jeff Buckley (with whom Gary Lucas wrote two of his songs that have become evergreen of world rock, Grace and Mojo Pin).
The next, what Mari herself defines as decisive for her spiritual and musical growth, happens in 2009 when she meets Mozez Wright (Mozez), former front man of the pioneer band of trip hop Zero 7, which together with the Bristol sound of Massive Attack, Portishead and the French Air marked a decisive musical era of electronic music of the late 90s. Moving to London in 2011 where she will live for about 7 years, Mari begins to write with Mozez her first debut album Gentle Beauty (released in 2012 for the English label Numen Records). Twelve songs inspired by the sound world of trip hop, Mari's favorite music genre. One of the songs, Free, which will then be remixed by the English producer and DJ Raj Mang (Roxy Music, Freddy Mercury, Shirley Bassey, Gorillaz), gets a moderate success especially in Croatia. The piece is in fact chosen as the soundtrack for the 2014 edition of the Electric Elephant Festival of Electronic Music in Tisno. The song Blue Is My Favourite Colour , included in the album, is sung in duet with Mozez and was written by Mari and Mozez together with the Italian singer-songwriter Vincenzo Incenzo, signature of many hits of Italian music sung by Michele Zarrillo, Renato Zero and many others.
After her first album Mari began a series of collaborations with several European DJs and producers such as Claudio Fiore (Eternal), Milo S (Just A Fool), and GoldLounge (Like A Feather). Mari has also collaborated with the band WA formed by Paolo Palazzoli and Roberto Cosimi, for the songs I Follow Voices and Tell Me Why (the latter written together with WA). Both tracks are included in their album Blue Thinking (2019 – Numen Records).
